ELAN BioSPC Award: 2026 Call for Applications

Key dates

• November 19–20, 2026: Presentation of the awardee’s work and ELAN BioSPC Award ceremony during the BioSPC Forum

Who can apply?

The call is open to doctoral candidates from the BioSPC Doctoral School who defended their PhD thesis in 2025.

Application dossier

The application dossier, approximately 10 pages maximum, must be submitted via the application form.

It must include the following documents:

1. Identification Form — 1 page

• First and last name
• BioSPC Department
• Laboratory
• PhD supervisor(s)
• Thesis defense date
• Examination committee members
• PhD thesis title

2. Motivation Letter — 2 pages maximum

The letter should cover, in particular:

• your doctoral journey;
• your most significant scientific contribution;
• the skills you developed beyond your research activities;
• your vision of a career in research and your future career plans.

3. Curriculum Vitae — 2 pages maximum

CV in a format of your choice, with a focus on research activities.

4. PhD Thesis Summary — 1 page maximum

5. Scientific Output — 2 pages maximum

Please specify, where applicable:

• publications resulting from your PhD: position in the author list, co-first authorship where applicable, journal, DOI;
• preprints: HAL, bioRxiv, medRxiv, etc.;
• publications resulting from collaborations outside the scope of your PhD research;
• patents, software, datasets, or other resources produced.

6. Scientific Communications — ½ page maximum

Communications presented at national and international conferences, including oral presentations, posters, invited talks, etc.

Please indicate whether these contributions were selected on the basis of an abstract or given by invitation.

7. Teaching and Supervision — 1 page maximum

Teaching activities / tutoting / supervision

8. Science Communication and Outreach — ½ page maximum

Participation in science communication and outreach activities, such as Fête de la Science, Ma Thèse en 180 secondes, Pint of Science, public lectures, podcasts, outreach activities in schools, etc.

9. Involvement in the Doctoral and Institutional Community — ½ page maximum

Participation in councils and committees, representation of PhD students, involvement in associations, organization of scientific events, laboratory councils, internal committees, etc.

10. Mobility, Collaborations and Interdisciplinarity — ½ page maximum

Research stays abroad, national or international collaborations, interdisciplinary projects, and experience in industry or clinical settings.

11. Awards, Funding and Responsibilities Obtained During the PhD — ½ page maximum

Awards, mobility grants, competitive funding, and specific responsibilities held during the doctoral period.

All application requirements and procedures are detailed in the ELAN BioSPC Award regulations and the documents accompanying this call for applications.

The Award

The winner will receive a laptop computer (MacBook or equivalent equipment).

Please note: recipients of a Chancellerie Award may not combine this distinction with the ELAN BioSPC Award and will therefore have to decline one of the two awards.
